When Natalie Wood (Rebel Without a Cause, Splendor in the Grass, West Side Story) was just 10-years-old, she told her mother that she was going to marry Robert Wagner, best known later on for his starring role in the TV series Hart to Hart. Well her wish came true not once, but twice. The pair went on a first date set up by the studio and married in 1957 amidst protest from her mother. After divorcing in 1962, she married film producer Richard Gregson before giving Wagner a second chance. Wood and Wagner remarried in 1972 and were together until her mysterious drowning while on a boat trip to Catalina Island in 1981. Many theorized that Wagner was involved with her death because the spouses were passionately arguing before she disappeared and she was found with bruises on her body.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s relationship has been deemed “the most turbulent love story ever told.” The two fell in love on the set of 1963’s Cleopatra while both were married to other people. The Vatican even called their coupling as “erotic vagrancy.” The scandalous pair, known as much for their public displays of passion as their chronic fighting and alcoholism, first married in 1964, but divorced in 1974 due to Burton’s infidelity. They remarried just a year later, but divorced again in 1976. In 1982, the two, who co-starred in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? showed up arm in arm for the violet-eyed beauty’s 50 birthday. Part of the couple’s legacy is the 68-carat Taylor-Burton Diamond.

When 14-year-old Melanie Griffith moved in with 22-year-old and twice-divorced Don Johnson, it became one of the most controversial celebrity pairings of all time due to her young age. The couple married in 1976 when Griffith was 18, but divorced just six months later. After Griffith went to rehab for her struggles with cocaine and alcohol abuse, the couple gave marriage another try and tied the knot for the second time in 1989. In 1994, they broke up and got together one more time before finally divorcing in 1996.

But it was over a decade later, in 1983, when the couple tied the knot. The pair’s personal life wasn’t exactly the subject of tabloid fodder until they announced they were separating after 30-years of marriage (and more than 40-years together) in October 2012.
