bridezilla-300x277Most experienced wedding planners could write a book about the crazy stories they have experienced as a planner.  The drunken guests, bridezillas, groomzillas, weather mishaps and bizarre events that we have seen are enough to test anyone’s patience and professionalism.

This week, we are sharing anonymous stories from event planners all over the world.  Here are some of our favorites about bridezillas and groomzillas:

  • The groom left the reception for about two hours. We finally found him smoking weed with the groomsmen outside in the woods.  He didn’t want to go back to the reception so they never cut their cake or did a first dance.
  • I had a bride who called me no less than 8 times a day during the entire four months we worked together.  If she didn’t hear from me within two hours, she would call again and email me.  No matter how many times I explained to her that I had other clients and meetings to tend to, she insisted that I should be available for her 24/7.
  • I once had a bride who literally had drafted and color coded a flowchart of how to put her dress on.  She actually assigned her bridesmaids and friends and mom tasks and specific instructions on when and how to touch the dress. Over the course of an hour, she had the corset tie back redone three times until she finally allowed me to assist and we were then good to go in fifteen minutes.
  •  The groom tried to kiss ME at the end of the night!  I never had a good feeling about him and this confirmed my suspicion that he was a jerk.
  • The bride could not find the groom during the last half of the rehearsal dinner. There were a lot of guests and the party was at his parent’s house.  We just assumed he was mingling and talking until I found him kissing the maid of honor in his childhood bedroom upstairs. AWKWARD!  The wedding still went on and I don’t think the bride ever found out.  I wasn’t going to be the one to tell her.
  • We had a bride who delayed her ceremony at the last minute so she could hand-sew a tutu for her dog.  The dog wasn’t even in the wedding!
  • The craziest thing I’ve had happen at a wedding was a bride, remarrying for the third time and upset at her florist, decided to throw the centerpiece from the head table over a balcony at the venue before the wedding started. The vase shattered on the cement below, while the guests, waiting for the ceremony to begin nearby, watched in horror. I asked my client if she felt better, and she simply said “Now I am.  <groom> better watch out because he may be next.” This is the point when I added a “zilla” clause to my contract.
