Sure, celebs can pull off over-the-top wedding stunts. (I’m talking to you, Nicole Richie, and your elephant.)

But does over-the-top ever work for a real-life bride and groom?

I think the most over-the-top thing I’ve seen at a wedding I’ve attended was the fireworks—yes, FIREWORKS!—at the end of my friend Melissa’s wedding. In the moment, they didn’t feel totally insane. But in hindsight, I have to wonder how much time and money (and how many permits!) it must’ve taken to make those fireworks happen!
