Last time, we started with the first three tips for lighting to enhance your event. From logistics to food and beverage lighting to functional lighting, these tips should’ve given you a lot to think about when it comes to lighting your next event.

Today, we’ll finish up with our final three tips. Read on to learn how using your theme, incorporating color, and using creativity with lighting will all help enhance your wedding or special event.

4. Use lighting to help support your theme.

No matter what type of event you’re throwing, having a general theme will help drive everything from decor to lighting.

While a classic and sophisticated wedding might feature some beautiful candelabras, perimeter string lights would be perfect for a backyard family barbeque. A graduation party is an ideal occasion for asian lanterns, while a corporate retreat may require the subtle elegance of brushed nickel onion lanterns.

Lean on the venue, the type of event you’re throwing, and your theme to choose the best lighting options for your party.

5. Consider color and lighting effects.

Take your lighting to the next level with color and effects. Build on the mood and ambiance by integrating your wedding or event colors within your lighting, transforming your space entirely.

Color can be used to subtly wash a room with whatever color makes sense for your event, effectively altering the entire atmosphere. Using color in lighting the walls and ceilings is another great way to infuse personality and customize a space. Lighting effects are a more bold way to create dramatic lighting, through projection, video displays, and more.

6. Get creative.

It’s easy to focus your creativity on the event decor or decorations, but lighting can be an area where a little creativity will go a long way in creating a beautiful and unique experience for your guests.

Consider incorporating bistro lighting for a fun, eclectic feel or uplighting for a more dramatic, classic look. Hanging (or table) chandeliers will add a sophisticated touch, and asian lanterns help give a fun, free spirited feeling. You can also use the element of surprise by using an unexpected type of lighting for an event.

Lighting creativity can also mean unique placement of lighting. For instance, using plenty of small, twinkling lights on an entrance wall would make for a great photo background for guests.

Hopefully we’ve officially convinced you not to skimp when it comes to the lighting for your event, since it can truly make a dramatic impact.
